Initial Consultation
You’ll talk about your vision and budget, we’ll talk about how to make it happen. We’ll ask all the right questions to understand your priorities, from text (e.g. rhyme, narrative, conceptual) to visual (e.g. spot illustrations, spreads, colours) to sales goals (e.g. give for free, donate proceeds, profit).

Project Development
We love efficient processes over here, so we always start with a clear project roadmap. We’ll ask you questions you didn’t know you had to think about. Before we even touch the story, you’ll have a crystal clear picture of what the final book will look like, and how we’ll get there.

Concept Refinement
If you have a completed manuscript, we’ll do multiple rounds of editing, including developmental and line editing (concept, flow, clarity, grammar, sentence structure—the works). If you need ghostwriting, an in-depth interview will help us translate the vision in your mind into words on a page.

Illustration & Design
Every package includes illustrator and graphic designer suggestions that fit your budget. The Standard Package includes collaborative coordination, while the Premium Package allows you to be as hands-on or hands-off as you’d like. For the busiest professionals, this could look like weekly meetings where we give you options and you make decisions—we handle the rest.

Production
This is when all the hard work comes together. The illustrator is sending us art for approval on a predetermined timeline. The graphic designer has given the illustrator templates to ensure art will be print-ready. We discuss what the cover will look like. We make typography decisions. We look at printer quotes and order samples (yes, you get to hold the book in your hands at this point). And much more.

Launch
All decisions have been made. The book is done, but the work has just begun. The printer is printing. Soon your books will be in crates on a boat, making their way to your doorstep. Shipping takes 6-8 weeks, and we use this time to prepare for your book launch. This includes getting advanced reviews, setting up your website, planning a launch party, setting up an Amazon seller profile, paying for ads, and much more.

Do I need to be a professional writer?
Not at all! We specialize in helping subject matter experts transform their knowledge into compelling children’s books. We are professional writers and editors with decades of experience, that’s what we’re here for.

How long does the process take?
We’ve published a book in 3 months, in time for an event… but this isn’t possible without a higher budget. This only works with highly experienced vendors as part of your team. Experience costs more. So does a rush job.
Typically, the publishing process can take 6-12 months from the time we hit the ground running to the moment you’re holding your book in your hands. Timeline depends heavily on your package and manuscript readiness.
Authors who select the Basic Package may find the process takes longer because, though we are there to guide and offer support, you will be executing many tasks on your own.
Factors affecting timeline include:

Who owns the rights to my book?
You retain full rights and royalties. We’re your publishing partner, not a traditional publisher.
You will need to discuss an agreement with your illustrator regarding art rights. We can facilitate this discussion and offer suggestions. There are industry standards that are win-win for everyone.
